Susitna Animal Urgent Care

Walk-In Urgent Vet Care in Palmer & Wasilla

Bridging the Gap Between Primary Care & Emergency Services

If your pet needs same-day veterinary care and your regular veterinarian isn’t available, Susitna Animal Urgent Care is here to help.

Veterinary urgent care fills the gap between routine appointments and emergency hospital care. It’s designed for illnesses and injuries that need prompt attention but aren’t immediately life-threatening—and shouldn’t wait several days for an appointment. Our experienced veterinary team provides timely, compassionate care to help your pet feel better and get on the path to recovery.

Located in Palmer and serving Wasilla and communities throughout the Mat-Su Valley, we provide walk-in urgent veterinary care for dogs and cats when unexpected illnesses and injuries arise.

No appointment is required. Walk in during our urgent care hours, or call ahead to check current wait times and get on the list.

Common Urgent Care Needs

It is recommended to seek urgent care when your pet has failed to respond to home care or may be injured or worsen by waiting to be seen by their primary care team. Below are some example conditions that require urgent care.

  • Cuts, bites or other wounds
  • Vomiting, diarrhea or digestive concerns
  • Ear, skin or urinary tract infections
  • Eye injuries, irritation or infections
  • Limping, pain or mobility concerns
  • Allergic reactions, swelling or skin irritation
  • Foreign body ingestion or related concerns
  • Fever, lethargy or sudden illness

Our Urgent Care Process

At Susitna Animal Urgent Care, we aim to make your visit as smooth and stress-free as possible. Here’s what to expect during your pet’s urgent care visit:

Step 1: Check-In & Registration

Complete the paperwork online before your visit or fill it out in person when you arrive.

A client service representative (CSR) will check you in and take a brief history of your pet’s condition.

Step 2: Medical Records & Medications

If possible, bring a copy of your pet’s medical records, especially lab results and any current medications (or photos of prescriptions). If you don’t have copies, we’ll coordinate with your primary care vet to obtain records electronically.

Step 3: Exam Room & Initial Assessment

A technician will bring you and your pet into a private exam room as soon as possible.

The technician will gather additional details about your pet’s condition before the vet begins their assessment.

Step 4: Veterinarian Evaluation & Treatment Plan

The veterinarian will assess your pet and recommend necessary diagnostic tests and treatment options. A cost estimate will be provided before proceeding with any treatments.

Step 5: Immediate Care & Follow-Up

Once you approve the treatment plan, our team will begin caring for your pet right away. We’ll keep your primary care vet informed of your pet’s visit to ensure seamless follow-up care.

Walk In Anytime – Or Call Ahead

Urgent Care FAQs

Urgent care intended to address illness, injury or conditions serious enough that waiting for care more than 24 hours is unsafe or may be detrimental but may not require a trip to the Emergency Room. Emergency care is meant to address illness or injury which may result in loss of life if not addressed immediately.

No appointment necessary, walk-ins are welcome at any time MON-FRI 11AM-9PM

Unfortunately it's difficult to predict how long a visit will take, it greatly depends on the severity of your pet’s illness and the treatment required. Be prepared for a minimum of a 1 hour visit for any reason knowing that several hours may be required for more serious afflictions.

If your pet requires overnight care, Susitna Animal Urgent Care will coordinate a transfer to a 24-hour care facility. While you are responsible for transporting your pet, we ensure a seamless transition by speaking directly with the receiving doctor to relay case details and estimated time of arrival, as well as sending complete medical records and test results.

Payment in full is required at the time of service. We accept cash, credit, CareCredit and Scratch Pay. If you are on a budget, don't worry, just make us aware of any limitations during the visit and we will do our best to prioritize care and diagnostics to meet the needs of your pet and remain within your means.

Yes, we accept payment plans through Scratch Pay and CareCredit. We recommend checking with Scratch Pay first, then exploring CareCredit if needed. Visit www.scratchpay.com and www.carecredit.com for more information.
